Who is Courtney J?

Courtney J. Harris is a standout vocalist and actress hailing from Bowie, Maryland.

While only 8 years of age, Harris is already developing quite an impressive body of work: she recently completed her second film and has performed in over a dozen musicals – the most notable being Blacks in Wax LIVE, where her character performed a rendition of the legendary Ella Fitzgerald’s, “A-Tisket, A-Tasket.”

In December 2016 Harris impressed as JoJo in Greenbelt Arts Center’s Seussical the Musical. DC Metro Theater Arts! remarked that Harris is “a talented and delightful emerging child star who won the audience over in all of her scenes” – the young lady’s gift is indisputable.

Other noteworthy roles include: Hairspray Jr.’s Little Inez Stubbs, Lion King Jr.’s Young Nala, Once on This Island, Jr.’s Little Ti Moune, Alice in Wonderland, Jr.’s Small Alice, and a guard in Aladdin, Jr., the latter of which she performed at the 2016 Junior Theatre Festival in Atlanta, Georgia. Harris was also invited to promote a production of Cinderella on Good Day DC.

Harris has always enjoyed the arts and has aspirations of performing on Broadway; this passion can be traced back to her solo debut in church at the remarkable age of 4. During a duet with her mother, Harris sang the chorus of the celebrated spiritual, “I Won’t Complain:”

HE’S been so good to me,
HE’S been good to me,
More than this old world or you could ever be
HE’S been so good to me

HE dried all of my tears away,
HE turned my midnights into day,
So, I'll just say thank you LORD

I’ll just say thank you LORD
I won’t complain!

The congregation was blown away by Harris’s voice at such a young age, but the greatest personal takeaway was the song’s reprise – it perfectly exemplifies how truly good God has been to Harris and her family.

Harris continues to build a solid resume while receiving training from Mark McKinnon Acting Studio, and Lillie Grace Music, both located in Largo, Maryland. She also enjoys spending a few weeks during her summer break at The Theatre Lab in Washington, DC. She understands that being afforded the opportunity to pursue her dreams, while working alongside such awesome talent, at her age is nothing short of a blessing.

In her personal life, Harris is an honor roll student who enjoys reading and science. Offstage she enjoys swimming, watching her favorite shows on Disney and Nickelodeon, spending time with her family, close friends, and her dog, Cookie.

Harris is forever grateful for her loving and supportive parents, older brother, CJ, grandparents, church family and management team who all champion her along the way.
